Miami-Dade Deputy Arrested in Delray Beach Sting Operation

A Miami-Dade deputy has been fired and arrested after allegedly attempting to meet a minor for sexual activity in Delray Beach.

According to the Delray Beach Police Department, 36-year-old Christopher Diaz traveled Thursday night to IPIC Theaters to meet someone he believed was a 15-year-old girl. Authorities say the “minor” was working with a group called 561 Predator Catchers as part of a sting operation.

Investigators allege Diaz ignored repeated warnings about the girl’s age and exchanged explicit messages through dating apps, iMessage and FaceTime. When they met in person, police say Diaz touched her chest over her clothing despite her repeatedly saying “no.”

Officers detained Diaz at the scene and secured his firearm. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on a battery charge and is being held without bond.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed Diaz was employed as a deputy at the time of the incident but was immediately terminated following his arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing.
