A 93-year-old man from Boynton Beach passed away nine days following his involvement in a collision involving two vehicles to the west of Delray Beach, as announced by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.
The incident took place at 8:50 p.m. on February 17th, when emergency services were called to an accident at the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and Legends Way, situated to the east of Florida’s Turnpike.
According to a report by the PBSO, a 2021 Hyundai Sonata with four passengers was headed east on Atlantic Boulevard, in the left turn lane nearing Legends Way.
Simultaneously, a 2019 Volkswagen Beetle, operated by a 53-year-old woman from Boca Raton, was traveling west on Atlantic Boulevard, nearing the same intersection.
Both vehicles had the green light.
As the Hyundai attempted a left turn onto Legends Way, it crossed in front of the Volkswagen, leading to the Volkswagen’s bumper colliding with the Hyundai’s rear passenger side.
Malcolm Arnold Cohen, a passenger in the Hyundai, was urgently transported to Delray Medical Center with severe injuries by the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, where he succumbed to his injuries nine days later, on Monday. The Hyundai’s other occupants, including a 58-year-old female driver, an 86-year-old woman, and an 18-year-old man, sustained no injuries.
